Pine Rocklands Zone 10

Dominated by slash pines, palms, and a diverse understory of grasses and wildflowers. Porous, oolitic, moderately alkaline limestone, overlain by pockets of marl and/or silicious sand with pockets of humus and debris, and surface litter. Under natural conditions, fires occur at 2-5 year intervals, preventing hardwood succession. Drainage is better than flatwoods, and plants tolerate more drought and less flooding. Salt and shade tolerance is slight.
