Mangrove Swamps Zone 9

Soils consist of salt, muck, mud, marl and other sedimentary materials. Brackish tidal flows alternately drain and flood the community. Plants require constantly moist soil, tolerate flooding and high salinity, and thrive on the abundance of nutrients brought by tides. Mangrove trees reach their northern limit here, but never attain full maturity due to intermittent freeze damage.
